D4L Shawty Lo Goes Solo!!!
D4L rapper Shawty Lo, is planning to drop his solo rap debut, Units In The City, on D4L Records/Asylum.
Though Lo mainly played the background to D4L's finger-snapping, white-rimmed-sunglasses-rocking frontman Fabo, he was a force to be reckoned with behind the scenes.
In 2003, he started D4L Records, and executive produced the group's uber-popular 2005 album, Down For Life (a.ka. D4L), which featured the contagious singles, "Betcha Can't Do It Like Me" and "Laffy Taffy," which went multi-platinum off of ring tones alone.
Along with fellow Atlanta rap troupe, Dem Franchize Boyz, D4L is credited with popularizing the southern "snap music" movement.
In 2006, the pint-sized rapper collaborated with DJ Scream on the underground mixtape I'm Da Man. The mixtape went on to sell 40,000 copies. Lo has most recently released a follow-up, I'm Da Man, Part 2.
Units In The City will feature guest rapper Gucci Mane, and is set to be released this fall.
