Plans for Motown Center On Hold Due to Lack of Funding

Plans to honor the historically Black recording label Motown with a museum in Detroit, Michigan have been scrapped, due to lack of funding.

City officials and Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr spent six years planning the $28 million museum, but they can’t find the funding to launch the Motown Center.

Planners are now considering a project on a smaller scale. The museum would house Motown memorabilia and tribute items to the label’s soul legends, including Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder.
