Russell On Hip Hop Again!!!
Russell Simmons fears for the future of rap after discovering not one of the top selling songs in the US this year was hip hop. The mogul adds that emerging rap talent isn't helping the cause. Simmons says, "I do wonder if there's enough diversity, 'cause I've pulled the top 10 records for the year and they're all f**king dance records. Nobody's saying nothing."
Our opinion: The rap backlash will eventually trickle down to magazines that feature hip-hop exclusively. Fans who no longer purchase rap will not buy hip-hop magazines because they are no longer interested in the music or the artist. Keep in mind, rap has fallen off significantly, country music currently out sells rap and only two rap albums went platinum last year.
Everything affiliated will rap (music, magazines, posters) will suffer.
